Used Japanese motors

Enginestar.com - JDM engines: A quick and dirty guide about hybrid engine swapping.

The spread of used Japanese motors has created a world of its own

Getting used Japanese motors inside your Honda is more than just about joining a trend. Big power comes from Japanese motors as long as you keep things on check. For many it’s an unfortunate fact that swapping a JDM motor can become time consuming and hard, while for other it’s that thrill of the making things work that gets them going. Either way, getting a Japanese motor isn’t hard nowadays that import retailers have cached on to their advantages. With the upheaval in custom hybridization a whole subculture of auto enthusiasts have managed to create a world of its own where words like “swapping”, “JDM”, “mods”, “trannys” and “turbos” just represent a tiny speck of the slang and technical language involved.

While some dedicated car users focus their efforts in drag racing performance, other more basic users, just want a Japan motor for improved daily driving. Depending on your objectives you might prefer one engine over another. Getting a used Japanese H22A inside the bay area of a sports scar is definitely more challenging than getting a B-series motor into the same car. While problems arise in both cases, it’s important to have one thing in mind when making swaps: the closer related motors are, the easier and smoother the swap is going to become. Always ask an expert, or a true car junkie with a track record for some assistance before trying to dive into this complex world by yourself.
