Take inventory before diving into the market of remanufactured engines

When planning to acquire remanufactured engines it’s important to take a detailed inventory of what you expect to receive. A remanufactured engine might come as a complete engine, or it might come with some of its parts missing depending on the vendor you deal with. Take stock of what you already posses and you might benefit by buying an engine that comes with a few parts missing for a lower price. For example if you posses the motor’s timing belts and carburetor then you can get a remanufactured engine without these two parts at a more affordable price. The engine block you get by default, it’s the motor’s accessories such as the alternator, air compressor or ECU that might not come in the package.

Different manufacturer brand engines can be found in the second hand market. Be sure to thoroughly inspect the motor before making a decision. Ideally only consider engines with a low mileage below the 50 thousands. Check that the valves are sealing the cylinder properly, that the valve train is straight and other such important details. When dealing with any engine make sure that it has a serial number so it can be properly registered. It’s not uncommon to hear about your friend’s friend engine being confiscated by authorities for not having the proper serial number.
