JDM motors: Something more than a low mileage advantage? | |
|
:: JDM motors :: Car enthusiasts that hunt down JDM motors for
their mechanical beasts do it principally for one main reason: low
mileage and excellent condition engines. However, because of how
vehicles work in Japan you can also expect your JDM motor to be a
slightly better performer. This is because the gasoline that they use in
Japan is of higher quality than the gasoline they use in the USA, making
JDM engines better performers. When saying that Japanese motor fuel is
of better quality we’re referring to the higher octane composition of
commercial gas. In Japan fuel octane can be as much as six points higher
than in the US meaning that it can tolerate higher compression ratios.
That’s why Japanese motors are known to have a slightly higher
compression than the USDM engines and their performance is marginally
better. Of course this all sounds great if you happen to live in Japan, but how are you going to get higher octane for your engine in the US? A possible answer would be to get some type of octane booster mixture for your engine. After performing a motor swap, and depending on your goals you might want to get all the extra motor boosting advantages you can get your hands on, especially if you’re planning on drag racing. With the right gasoline blend you can get your JDM engine to improve performance up to 10 HP which is a lot when you consider the cheap costs involved in this endeavor.
