Enginestar.com - JDM engines: A quick and dirty guide about hybrid engine swapping. |

:: JDM Accord :: With so much noise the Civic school of
hybridizing, it’s worthwhile to examine what option there is to create a
JDM Accord hybrid. Looking at the 94-97 Accord from the JDM, one notices
that it uses a H22 engine rated at a monster 190 HP. This fact leaves us
thinking: can a JDM H22 engine be installed in a USDM Accord? Like the
local Accords average 125-145 HP it becomes extremely desirable to get
this import engine to power up your car. The good news is that major
modifications wouldn’t be terribly necessary because the bay area in JDM
and USDM Accords is practically the same. As for finding the H22 engine
for your project you could consider either a JDM Accord SiR engine or a
motor extracted from a Prelude. Looking closer at the specs that the Honda H22 engine presents it’s easy to make this swap as desirable as ever. These 2.2L motors feature a DOHC as well as VTEC technology that always comes along nice for those high RPM situations. OBD is OBD2 for almost all H22A’s except possibly for those found in the 94-97 Accord SiR or the 92-96 Prelude VTEC. Necessary wiring conversions would be needed to upgrade to OBD2 settings if that’s the case, but apart from that, and the transmission, the motor swap should be as easy as dropping a ZC in a fourth generation Civic.
