:: Japanese used engines and transmissions :: With all the Japanese used engines and
transmissions out there it’s quite easy to get confused in the mix. The
simplest way to go about getting the right transmissions is to get the
ones that come along with the used Japanese motors in question. Of
course many times this isn’t possible so you have to find a way to
educate yourself on how to identify the right transmission for your
engine. But it gets even more complicated because Japanese
transmissions, actually all Honda transmissions, are very vaguely
labeled, so a lot of dangerous guesswork is involved in the process
unless you really know what you’re doing. One way to get the used
transmission you need is to simply ask the vendor what engine it will
fit in. If he can’t answer that question he maybe isn’t the best vendor
to do business with. Used manual transmissions are likely to have gotten a bad beating before they reach your hands. Since all transmissions don’t come by too cheap, it’s always a good idea to ask a little about its history and what uses it had during its existence. A car driven by a careful grandmother is sure to have a higher quality transmission than one found in a car that was used for drag racing. Same goes with used motors. Finally, remember that Honda transmissions are either hydraulic or cable, pick the type that’s most compatible with your custom setup.
