Swapping B16A1 Honda engines into 4th generation Civics | |
|
:: Honda engines :: B16A1 Honda engines are originally found in
90-91 Civic SiRs and, with the right modifications, you can adapt them
to fit inside your 4th generation USDM civics. These Honda motors
feature a 1.6L displacement, a 10.4:1 compression ratio and 160HP at
7600 HP. This better engine performance when compared to a D series 4th
generation stock motor make it a desirable swap to work on. Due to some
structural difference this engine is characterized by, a mounting kit is
necessary for the engine to properly bolt in. Some transmission
compatibility issues also come up with these engines. This is because
the Honda D-series aren’t compatible with the Honda B-series, making
some transmission mods necessary. With this in mind, A Y1 transmission is ideal for the swap to work out perfectly. Modify the engine’s shift linkage, or make sure the necessary conversion parts come with the engine swapping kit. As for the engine control unit, you have 3 different options that all work just about the same. With some wiring changes you can use a stock SiR ECU. With an additional external rpm switch for VTEC activation you can get maximum benefits form these motors. You can also go with a Del Sol ECU that, like the SiR ECU, will need some rewiring done for compatibility.
