Honda engine swap

Enginestar.com - JDM engines: A quick and dirty guide about hybrid engine swapping.

Fitting a B18C into a 5th generation Civic is a most rewarding Honda engine swap

B18C into a 5th generation Civic. This Honda engine swap is both the easiest and most powerful one for this car. It’s also one of the most expensive Honda engine swaps out there because of the highly powerful and engine it involves, especially in the case of the B18C5 engine. Talking about engines, let’s review the potential candidates for this swap, including JDM possibilities. The aforementioned B18C5 engine is originally found in 3rd generation Integra cars dated from 97 to 98. This Integra type R features our candidate engine, with an impressive power of 195 HP at 8000 RPM. Another viable engine would be the less powerful but still potent 170HP B18C1 featured in the Integra GS-R. Both these engines bolt in comfortably into the existing engine mounts though additional wiring needs to be done for VTEC, and an OBD conversion is necessary for the B18C5 model.

Other cars from were a B18C engine could be taken from are the JDM 95-00 Integra type R and the 95-97 Integra SiR. The type R boasts a 197 HP capacity at 8000 RPM just to give you an idea of this beast. On the other hand the SiR exerts a more conservative 178 HP at 7600 RPM, that still is a lot compared to the average 125 HP the 5th generation Civic presents. In all cases since these engines feature VTEC technology it’s necessary to wire it up for adaptability. Also, the axles, the shift linkage and the Engine Control Unit all need to be replaced for a successful motor swap.
