Enginestar.com - JDM engines: A quick and dirty guide about hybrid engine swapping. |
|
A brief review of the different Honda Accord engines | |
|
:: Honda Accord engines :: Honda Accord engines are known to be of the F
series, particularly those with 2.2L of displacement. Analyzing the
variations of these Honda engines as they appeared on different 4G and
5G Accords, one can see that they presented slight variations in both
horsepower and torque. Because of their relatively large displacement of
2.2L, they have a lot of torque, making them an interesting swap for
lighter vehicles such as the Honda Civic. As for horsepower, don’t
expect these to be as mighty as the H22’s found in Preludes, though they
are fairly potent rating up to the Accord EX’s 145 HP. Add torque to
that and you can make a Civic hybrid with new super-powers. Then if we look into the specs of JDM Accords, we find that they have different engines than their USDM counterparts altogether. The most powerful JDM Accord is the 94-97 versions which come with a very desirable engine of 190 HP and 152 Torque. This engine is coded H22, like those found in the Preludes, the H22As. With these big numbers it’s really tempting to plan out a possible engine swap. And, according to diverse web sources, with the right engine kits it’s pretty feasible to turn this trick, though not recommended. The heavy weight this Honda engine imposes is one of the biggest reasons to think twice before immersing yourself in a full time project.
